Dietary Aide (Food Services)

General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the activity of the shift. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

Must be able to learn food service routines quickly.

Set up meal trays.

Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.

Assist with serving different meals.

Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.

Observe water temperatures during dishwasher cycles.

Operate the dishwasher.

Prepare nourishments and snacks.

Sweep and mop the kitchen.

Carry out trash and garbage disposal.

Put groceries away in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.

Leave the kitchen clean and sanitary; assist the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.

Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.

Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.

Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.

Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel in all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Language Skills

Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various formats.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

Requires standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling frequently, lifting up to 50 pounds, and other physical activities. Good vision and focus are necessary.

Work Environment

The environment is usually low to moderate noise. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
