Job OverviewRWJBarnabas Health is looking to add a Mental Health Screener in Somerville, NJ. The Mental Health Screener provides care in the acute care setting within the scope of practice defined by the Screening Law and other regulatory standards. Assures safety in practice by maintaining a realization of their own knowledge and experience and communicates with resource persons/programs available. The Screener individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient's needs and works with an interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal service.
Responsible for supervising and directing task delegation to appropriate support personnel and for setting and evaluating priorities.
Required:
- BA/BS degree in a related field, plus 3 years of prior experience in a psychiatric setting, 1 of which is in a crisis setting
- Or enrolled in a Master’s program with 2 years of prior experience in a psychiatric setting, 1 of which is a crisis setting
- Must possess and maintain a valid NJ state driver’s license
- BLS through American Heart Association
Preferred:
- Eligible to obtain Temporary Screening Certification Number upon hire and obtain permanent number within 1 year
Certifications and Licenses
Required:
- Valid NJ State Driver's License
- BLS Certification
- Eligible to obtain permanent Screening Certification Number within 1 year of hire
- Day Shift, 40 hours/week
- Full-Time Schedule
- Answers phones (hotline, business line) in a professional and timely manner
- Communicates clinical information effectively with the Screening psychiatrist/Child psychiatrist
- Communicates effectively with other health care team members (internal and external)
- Coordinates with the Screening RN in Charge of Shift regarding the patient’s treatment plan and disposition
- Conducts a thorough ongoing assessment according to departmental guidelines
- Provides patient care in a timely manner
- Maintains professional behavior according to hospital codes in the Employee Handbook
- Describes screening process and updates progress of evaluation/interventions to patient/family
- Documents all applicable assessments and interventions in the patient’s EMR
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports prior to end of shift
- Completes Screening Documents in accordance with Screening Law and DMHS Screener Certification training
