Job Overview

RWJBarnabas Health is looking to add a qualified Mental Health Clinician in Somerville, NJ. This position provides clinical assessment, crisis intervention, evaluations for hospitalization, and crisis service coordination for children, adolescents and their families residing in Somerset County, within the context of the Childrens Crisis Intervention Services (CCIS) system.

Qualifications

Required:

  • MA/MS degree in social work, psychology or related field
  • Two years of prior experience/training working with children, adolescents and families in a mental health setting required
  • Experience/training in crisis intervention and assessment required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NJ State Driver's License
Certifications and Licenses Required
  • BLS Certification from AHA
Scheduling Requirements
  • Day Shift, 40 hours/week

Essential Functions
  • Answers phones, i.e. (hotline, business line), in a professional and timely manner
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate clinical information effectively with the Screening psychiatrist and Unit supervision
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with other members of the health care team (internal and external) to include RN in Charge as pertains to the patients treatment plan and disposition
  • Demonstrates ability to conduct a thorough ongoing assessment according to departmental guidelines in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively provide patient care in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates professional behavior according to hospital codes in section Conduct for Patients/Customers in the Employee Handbook
  • Describes Screening process and updates progress of evaluation/interventions to patient/family
  • Documentation indicates attempts made to provide clinical information and obtain insurance pre-certification
  • Documentation indicates collaboration with patient and/or family in the development of patient care planning and discharge
  • Gathering relevant collateral information
  • Documentation indicates gathering of relevant collateral information
  • Documentation indicates that patient/family were provided with information based on Discharge Plan/Teaching Checklist
  • Documentation indicates thorough completion of request for off-site Screening Evaluation and Community Outreach
  • Documentation reflects clinical decision of Outreach outcome based on criteria as per Screening Law
  • Evaluates effects of interventions throughout the patients stay and updates the plan of care as per hospital policy
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports in a timely manner (prior to end of shift)
  • Prioritizes Child Outreach services (schools, homes, residential treatment facilities) to include follow-up referrals from crisis units
  • Provides hotline information/referral/interventions that conforms to Screening guidelines
  • Screening Assessment indicates determination of most appropriate services/disposition according to patient s clinical needs (consideration of least restrictive alternatives)
  • Screening Document contains clear description of dangerousness due to mental illness as per Screening Law and guidelines from DMHS Screener Certification training
  • Screening Document reflects clear description of patient s mental illness as per Screening Law and guidelines from DMHS Certification training
  • Collaborate with provider agencies to coordinate care across systems as needed
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Provides educational services to provider agencies to include schools, community providers, county/state DMHAS representatives, and others as requested
  • Represent CFCC position at county Childrens Systems Review Committee (CSRC) and Childrens Interagency Coordinating Council (CIACC) on a monthly basis as determined by committee chairpersons
