Rate: $34.76/hr
The purpose of this position is to provide highly technical weld services to the entire MBTA Railroad Operation network.
Knowledge and Skills- Must know welding and soldering techniques
. - Must be able to use basic hand tools, lift, bend, and stoop and carry repeatedly heavy loads.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions, including severe weather, year‑round as assigned.
- ihres ability to from verbal and written instructions.
- Must have the ability to work well with others as well as alone as required.
- Must be proficient in computers and software CAD Drawings, Microsoft Suite, and communication software.
- Must have high school diploma, GED or equivalent educational credential. Trade and/or vocational school preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have current AWS Specification Plate specifically for welding aluminum.
- Must have 5 years’ experience with Mig, Tig, and Metal Fabrication

- Works from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, verbal instructions and word orders.
- Makes a wide‑range of welds from simple to precision welding, including welds of dissimilar metals.
- Determines disassembly or repair necessary and materials to be used.
- Works with light, heavy gauge and hardened metals, i.e. mild steel, carbon alloy steel, stainless steel, copper on brass, brass on stainless steel, cast iron, nickel and bronze.
- Uses electric, oxyacetylene, gas tungsten arc, and gas carbon arc welding processes to weld metal parts and structures ranging from .025 inches to very thick metal which requires multiple welding passes.
- Devises epo special jigs and fixtures to hold parts to be welded. LOST LIST
- Positions and clamps work, preheats metal and maintains temperature to prevent distortion.
- Other duties as assigned.
