Position Summary
Somerville High School Evening Door and Building Monitor is responsible for monitoring the main entrance of a school building, screen visitors enforcing security policies and for maintaining a professional and courteous relationship with the staff, children, and families in the program while also overseeing appropriate use of the building during weekday evening hours.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Monitor the front entrance and, if applicable, other designated, exterior doors/gates. Ensure doors are not propped open and remain locked.
- Verify identification, check in visitors and if applicable, issue passes following school policy.
- Assist students, staff and visitors entering the school building and direct individuals to the appropriate location within the school building.
- Conduct regular checks of the school building including hallways and restrooms. Monitor security cameras, if applicable.
- Report, manage, and/or diffuse, potential safety threats or unauthorized individuals, including the removal of unauthorized persons from school building.
- Redirect people from unauthorized locations in the building
- Coordinate with night custodial staff to ensure the building is fully cleared of visitors each evening.
- Maintain visitor logs and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Ability to communicate effectively in all aspects of the job.

- Must be courteous and able to effectively manage job responsibilities.

- Must possess active listening skills.
- Must possess conflict mediation skills. Maintains a high level of professionalism in all interactions with public, students and school staff.

The ability to walk around the premises, stoop, bend, climb stairs and kneel. - Lifting and Carrying:
Most positions require the ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 10 to 25 pounds, such as packages or equipment. Some roles may rarely require lifting up to 50 pounds. - Door monitors may work in both indoor and outdoor settings and need to be able to tolerate varying conditions of noise levels and temperatures.
