Position: Instructional Designer / Learning Technologist

Instructional Designer / Learning Technologist Salary Range: $80,000-$95,000 Annually

Under the direction of the Learning and Development Manager-Mechanical, this position will assess, develop, and revise departmental educational content based on contractual, occupational, technical, or regulatory needs or requirements.

Experience
  • Degree in teaching, instructional design, instructional systems technology, educational technology, learning and design technology, or related field required.
  • Experience and deep understanding of major s and adult learning methodologies.
  • Preferred experience designing Instructor-Led Training (ILT) programs.
  • Basic experience/knowledge with multimedia authoring programs.
  • Learning/Competency Management System experience helpful.
  • Interest and curiosity for the passenger transportation industry.
  • Development work split for this position:
    Instructor led=80-90%, E-learning=10-20%.
  • Need to provide variety of work samples/portfolio prior to interview.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Applies instructional design principles and characteristics of adult learners in designing effective instructional content.
  • Creates interactive presentations, instructor guides, student guides, assessment tools, and lesson plans to meet departmental needs.
  • Transforms complex, unorganized information into clear, effective multi-media instruction using text and visuals (including images, infographics, audio, video, etc.).
  • Create, publish, and manage eLearning content for the mechanical dept.
  • Contribute to the development of a performance support system to assist learners with applying new skills in the work context (job aids, videos, just-in-time aids, etc.).
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts.
  • Strong knowledge of learning theories, instructional design models, and lesson and curriculum planning skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced MS office skills.
  • Basic Adobe (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) knowledge helpful.
  • Basic Camtasia knowledge.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong ability to easily adapt to and learn new technologies.
  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills.
Key Accountabilities
  • Designs and develops training programs and instructional materials (i.e., instructor-led training, web-based training and other learning interventions) to address contractual, regulatory, or performance gaps as determined by needs assessment/analysis.
  • Develops and implements an evaluation program to assess the effectiveness of instructional design products utilizing Kirkpatrick’s four levels or equivalent whenever possible.
  • Become departmental Subject-Matter Expert (SME) in the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) and/or Competency Management System (CMS) and other departmental learning technologies.
  • Provides overall instructional design quality control for all projects through formative, summative, or confirmative evaluation.
  • Ensures that instructional modules follow the approved instructional design format.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and research proven techniques.
  • Leads course development or revision projects by collaborating and communicating with other team members or field SMEs to support the on-time delivery of accurate, effective, high-quality content.
  • Manages course library for document control and on-going content revisions.
  • Participate, as needed, in the testing and piloting of new educational tools and features of new learning platforms or digital tools. Makes recommendations on applications of these tools.
