First (1st) Review of Applications will be on 1/27/2026 and then every 7 days until filled. This position is designated as the Administrative classification (2080) and represents one of two distinct Battalion Fire Chief positions within the organization, the other being classified as (2912).Summary
Under limited supervision on a rotating shift or administrative assignment, provides guidance to assigned staff for training, emergency response programs.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Reports for shift on time and prepared to immediately commence duties.
- Prioritizes, schedules, assigns, reviews work and evaluates performance of assigned staff.
- Manages department operations including district coverage, staffing levels, and vacation/leave management, station inspections, and staff communication meetings with Fire Captains and assigned crews.
- Monitors and evaluates personnel and program services for compliance with operational and procedural standards.
- Researches and identifies departmental trends or areas needing improvement and develops or recommends appropriate strategies, tactics, and corrective actions for improvement.
- Utilizes Incident Command System (ICS) and related structures including implementing and assuming command until relieved by senior officer, securing the area, setting up operations, safety, staging and emergency medical areas.
- Responds to emergency alarms such as emergency medical, hazardous material, mutual aid assignments or fire suppression utilizing IAS.
- Monitors scene integrity for investigative purposes and assists Fire Inspector to determine cause of incident or fire.
- Provides post-incident support for victims including referral to appropriate agencies.
- Assumes role of Department Liaison under a Unified Command Structure with multiple units responding.
- Assists in development, initiation and managing of divisional budgets and long and short-range planning for facilities, apparatus, equipment, staffing and programs.
- Identifies, participates, provides, schedules, or coordinates structured training sessions according to established operational procedures of the Training Division and Fire Department for crew readiness such as medical, hazardous materials, technical rescue, stress debriefing, scene management, time management, computer program, and physical fitness programs.
- Manages and prepares technical and administrative reports for assigned special programs and services in area of expertise or assignment.
- Coordinates public appearance requests.
- Resolves moderately complex problems encountered in performance of work assignments.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- An Associate Degree in Fire Management Services, Public Administration (preferred), or related field.
- Six (6) years’ Fire Captain experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform these duties.
- Federal, National, State and City Fire Codes, regulations, ordinances, and operational standards.
- Fire prevention, suppression, and education methods, practices, and procedures for a variety of fire, hazardous materials responses, emergency medical services and rescue operations.

- Operating standards, mandates and guidelines related to Fire department operations.
- Management and administration practices and procedures.
