SummaryAssist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Assist teacher with instructional activities.
- Escort students from room to room.
- Assist with toileting of students when required.
- Work with both special education and regular students.
- Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Assist students with classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
- Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.
- PMT required and provided by the district.

Education and/or ExperienceHigh School Diploma or General Education Degree; two years of college credit or an associate’s (or higher) degree; or successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment that evaluates content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these subjects.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Computer SkillsBasic knowledge and experience with job‑related computer hardware and software applications.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community; ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical DemandsThe employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear; stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; push items up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
Work EnvironmentThe noise level is typical of classrooms with school children. The paraprofessional works throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus, and is responsible for the safety and well‑being of students in his/her charge.
Salary and Work HoursSalary:
Per contractual agreement.
Work hours:
6.5 hours per day (7:45 am to 2:45 pm).
