Reading Specialist - Extended

Position: Reading Specialist - Extended School Year
JOB DESCRIPTION:

Extended School Year (ESY) is a Special Education Program for students with
disabilities whose IEP team has determined that in order to prevent substantial regression and reduce
recoupment times the students require a longer year. Services are based on individual needs to
address IEP goals and objectives. To provide direct instruction in the area of reading for identified
groups and individual students, with an emphasis on emergent, beginning and transitional readers.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Schedule and provide specialized reading services for students on an Individualized Education Program.
2. Consult, and collaborate with other ESY service providers as needed.
3. Communicate student progress based on data collected to parents/guardians and school personnel.
4. Deliver effective instruction and fulfill all professional responsibilities
5. Willingness to be trained in and use positive behavior support strategies.
6. Plan and implement sequential learning experiences for students using a variety of instructional strategies
consistent with the District's instructional goals.
7. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of teaching of reading, child growth and development,
effective instructional strategies, learning and assessment and diagnosis and research related to learning
and students needing to learn to read.
8. Complete any other duty or assignments as directed by the Director of Special Education/ESY
