Join Bristol Public Schools as a City-Wide Para educator at South Side Elementary School.
Position SummaryAssist in small group and individual pupil instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Assist teacher with instructional activities.
- Escort students from room to room.
- Support students with toileting when required.
- Work with both special education and regular students.
- Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEPs.
- Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
- Assist students with classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Assist teacher in filing materials and preparing necessary paperwork.
- Alert teachers to observed problems.
- Support with toileting of students as needed.
- PMT required and provided by district.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit or an associate’s degree, or successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering content knowledge in mathematics, reading, writing, and instruction support.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance.
Computer Skills
Basic knowledge and experience with job‑related computer hardware and software applications.
Reasoning Ability
Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions; handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Skills and Abilities
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community; perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical DemandsRegularly sit, talk or hear; stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; push items up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, and peripheral vision.
Work EnvironmentTypical classroom noise level; work throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus. Responsible for safety and well‑being of students in charge.
Salary and Work HoursSalary: per contractual agreement.
Work hours:
6.5 hours per day (8:50 am to 3:50 pm).
