Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise. As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately. They operate as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices, demonstrating genuine care and contributing to a safe and inclusive culture.
Responsibilities- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
- Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, and drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care; provide personalized moments when serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services; and demonstrate compassionate care by solving or escalating patient problems.
- Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership (e.g., putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories).
- Engage in continuous learning: embrace a growth mindset, accept feedback, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including volunteering to cover shifts in other stores when required.
- Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards and ethical principles; adhere to CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing, record‑keeping, and privacy.
- Deliver additional patient health care services such as immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and, where permissible, staff off‑site clinics.
- Complete additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status for vaccine preparation and administration.
- Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer them to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty for vaccination questions.
- Monitor for, respond to, and report adverse reactions per public health requirements.
- Collect and document patient information for each applicable patient.
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
- Comply with all state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
- State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between tasks, confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
- Customer service and team orientation: friendly help, understand patient reactions, respond appropriately.
- Communication skills: verbal and written interaction with patients and colleagues, active listening.
- Mathematical reasoning: solve problems involving quantity calculations for prescriptions.
