We are currently seeking a Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Somers, CT
. This is a full-time, hands-on role for an experienced professional who wants to work in a stable environment and support our fleet operations and student training equipment.
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing routine and preventative maintenance on our fleet vehicles, including oil changes, brake service, tire work, and other repair tasks. The role includes conducting basic diagnostics—especially on A/C and electrical systems—and using diagnostic tools to troubleshoot more complex mechanical and electronic issues when needed.
This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and includes facility maintenance tasks such as snow removal and salting of the driving yard and walkways.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine preventative maintenance on diesel trucks (oil changes, brake service, tire work, etc.)
- Conduct basic diagnostics and repairs, including electrical and A/C systems
- Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic tools
- Complete thorough mechanical inspections and replace defective components
- Maintain detailed service records and ensure compliance with DOT and safety regulations
- Assist with general facility maintenance and seasonal snow removal (snowplow training provided)
- Communicate with instructors and staff to identify repair needs
- Support campus operations with other duties as assigned
- Certification in Diesel Mechanics from a vocational or post-secondary training program
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in diesel equipment maintenance
- Familiarity with DOT safety regulations and compliance standards
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with vendors to source and order parts
- Willingness to adhere to a set schedule and work additional hours as needed
- ASE certification
- Valid Class A CDL license
- Experience maintaining vehicles in a fleet or training environment
- Proven mechanical repair skills for gas and diesel engines
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and maintenance documentation
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Self-motivated, safety-conscious, and able to work independently
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
- Supervisory Responsibilities: None
- Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to other NETTTS campuses or training events may be required.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift/move up to 40 lbs., work in and around vehicles, stand for extended periods, and safely enter/exit commercial trucks. Must pass and maintain a valid DOT physical and drug screen.
