Nurse Extern - Summer

Nursing Students Only

Our Nurse Extern Program is designed for anyone currently enrolled in a nursing program and entering their last year of nursing school.

• February 20, 2026 – Final date to receive applications
• June 9, 2026 – Externship Program Begins
• August 15, 2026 – Externship Program Ends

The Nurse Extern program is a ten-week, full-time (36 hours per week) summer experience for nursing students to further their exposure to clinical nursing practice.

• Provide direct and indirect patient care with an experienced RN.
• Under the direction of a Registered Nurse partner, student nurses practice selected skills and gain confidence in the nursing environment.
• Sharpen assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Acclimates to the Acute Care Nursing setting.
• Be prepared in the transition from student nurse to professional nurse.
• Receive potential employment opportunities as a nurse aide upon program completion.

• Enrolled in a Nursing Program.
• Students must be in good standing as indicated by their institution.
• BLS through the American Heart Association.
• For Nursing students in a two-year program: must have completed at least 2 clinical nursing semesters with a minimum of a “C”.
• Undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (must be entering their senior year) and completed a full clinical rotation in an acute care setting with a minimum of a “C”.
• Intermediate computer skills, excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods with the ability to lift, push and pull.

• Minimum of one letter of recommendation.

• 36 hours per week commitment.

Base Rate: $18.50 per hour
