QUALIFICATIONS: A valid Ohio teacher's certificate in the area assigned.

A Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university.

Demonstrated successful classroom teaching experience in grades 9-12.

Appropriate recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

CONTRACT
WORK DAYS: 186 days

RESPONSIBLE TO: High School Principal

GENERAL
RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate a positive ability to work harmoniously with others and exhibit an ability to discover and develop the potential of all students assigned to his/her care.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: CURRICULUM

Maintain an understanding of the goals and objectives of the district by drawing from past experiences of teaching as well as keeping abreast of new developments in group meetings, committee work and through study of new materials as they become available.

Support the district philosophy by structuring and executing his/her program and plans in a manner which will fulfill the curriculum requirements.

Analyze and interpret needs of class groups, subgroups and individuals as indicated by norm referenced and criterion referenced tests.

Utilize and develop a variety of appropriate materials to suit instructional needs of the learner.
Devise and implement management systems which will provide a measurable structure and also provide for individual learning needs.

Know the behavioral objectives and provide for objective evaluation of them.

Implement and guide relative problem-solving experiences which will introduce and reinforce learning as established in the curriculum goals.

Maintain and extend varied instructional techniques to provide success experiences for the learners.

PUPIL MANAGEMENT

Guide and develop values, attitudes and behaviors of the students which are socially acceptable:
  • By developing a sense of responsibility toward others and to respect the rights and property of all people.
  • By the development of an appreciation for the needs for rules, laws and government.
  • By guiding the development of the self-discipline needed to follow school rules.
  • By guiding development of efficient work habits and the organization of time and materials.
  • By encouraging a sense of responsibility and pride accomplishments well done.
  • By guiding an acceptance of failure and recognition of future alternatives.
  • By developing acceptable methods in reaching decisions as individuals and with groups.
PUPIL PLANNING

Make good use of the multiplicity of available materials.

Organize lessons formulating clearly defined long and short term objectives with references to the courses of study.

Utilize team and individual planning to challenge children according to their ability.

Evaluate lessons taught on a daily basis and be flexible to change plans as necessary.

PUPIL ASSESSMENT

Determine each child's ability level using accumulative records, testing results and teacher progress.
Keep accurate records of student progress.

Consistently determine that students are actively accepting responsibility for their learning and progress.

Provide positive reinforcement to help students reach their potential.

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT

Provide a physically comfortable and attractive classroom.

Display materials to motivate learning.

Develop a sense of dignity, self-worth and self-discipline in each student.

BUDGET

Assist in formulating department budget as requested.

Be conservative in the use of materials.

Assist in selecting materials needed to support curriculum needs.

Understand and follow the procedures for requesting/obtaining new materials.

STAFF RELATIONSHIP

Maintain optimum working relationships with all school personnel.

Participate in school activities.

Share knowledge and materials with other staff members.

COMMUNICATIONS

Maintain open and on-going communications with students and parents.

Communicate with parents regarding student progress and program during scheduled conference periods, open house and as other needs arise.

Communicate with peers and other school personnel regarding student needs and professional concerns.

GENERAL BUILDING ASSIGNMENT

Be aware of and fulfill specific building assignments in cooperation with the building principal.

Handle all details of records, attendance, social activities, supervision and other matters related to classroom assignment.

Utilize appropriately school property and equipment.

Complete all necessary school reports, records and forms.

Attend faculty meetings and conferences as specified by the principal.

Follow building procedures as outlined in the Teachers' Handbook.
