Job Purpose :
To manage and develop prototyping studio at School of Design and enable hands-on learning, experimentation, and innovation for students and faculty. The studio in-charge will support academic programs by ensuring safe, efficient, and industry-relevant use of workshops including metal, wood, ceramic, and plastic studios, along with laser cutting, 3D printing, and paint booth operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage operations and maintenance of equipment in all workshops including laser cutting machines, 3D printers, and finishing facilities; maintain documentation related to studio usage, material register. Maintain inventory of tools and consumables; initiate procurement as required. Provide technical guidance to students during prototyping, model-making, and fabrication processes. Support collaborative projects involving industry, research, or interdisciplinary initiatives. Develop studio facility for next phase including assistance in procurement, installation of machinery.

Ensure compliance with institutional safety norms and statutory regulations related to workshop usage.

Qualification:

Diploma/Degree/ITI in Mechanical/Production engineering or a related discipline from a recognized institution.

Experience:

8-10 years of hands-on experience in prototyping workshops, fabrication labs, design studios. Prior experience in an academic design institute or innovation lab will be preferred. Skills &

Competencies:

Strong hands-on skills in wood, metal, plastic, ceramic, and mixed-material prototyping. Working knowledge of laser cutting, 3D printing, basic CNC processes, and finishing techniques. Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and workshop workflows. Ability to train, supervise, and mentor students in a studio environment. Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and time-management skills. Desirable Attributes:
Exposure to emerging fabrication technologies and sustainable material practices. Experience supporting student competitions, design exhibitions, or industry-sponsored projects. Interest in continuous learning and upgrading technical skills aligned with design education.

Compensation :
As per university norms and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
