Overview

DSHS HCLA Nursing Consultant Institutional Follow your passion for nursing beyond the bedside as a Registered Nurse Nursing Consultant Institutional
- Nursing Home Surveyor/Complaint Investigator are dedicated to ensuring resident well-being and safety in nursing homes.

As a Registered Nurse with the Home and Community Living Administration (HCLA), the Nursing Home Surveyor uses their long-term care knowledge to conduct onsite nursing home visits for state licensure and federal certification surveys. Facilities are located throughout the region and require overnight travel to conduct federal certification surveys and provide stability for residents. Your dedication as a nursing home team member supports our goals of advocacy for vulnerable populations.

What you will do
  • Conduct federal certification full surveys arid abbreviated (complaint investigations) surveys to include the Quality Indicator Survey (OIS) computer assisted survey and state licensure surveys; and complete required reports. Initiate and complete accurate, timely reports.
  • Make observations of resident services and care within the scope of duties as allowed, and the physical environment in which. the services are provided.
  • Plan and organize workload.
  • Conduct interviews with individual residents, resident family members, and other community representatives to obtain information regarding practices of providers and residents' satisfaction with the care and services provided by the facility.
  • Communicate with team members, providers, staff. residents and families.
  • Evaluate nursing care within parameters of state regulations.
  • Obtain information regarding residents' care and services from professional records, facility staff, and other sources.
  • Serve as the team coordinator for designated surveys which include planning the survey, making team assignments, problem solving, chairing team meetings, communication of findings to the facility as well as briefing upper management to include team recommendations.
  • Recognize and analyze deficient practice.
Who should apply

Licensed Registered Nurse in Washington State and five years of experience as an RN in a long-term care setting.

Or

Bachelor of Science in Nursing and three years of experience as an RN in a long-term care setting.

Or

Master of Nursing/Master of Science in Nursing and two years of RN experience in a long-term care setting.

Note:

A valid Washington State license to practice as a registered nurse is required.

Travel to Nursing Home Facilities as assigned; includes a broad geographical area and possible travel to other regions.

Work may require overnight stays.

Hours vary- may require periodic evening, early mornings, and weekend work.

Work as a member of a team as well as individually.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Experience and knowledge in the field of Mental Health nursing.
  • Excellent computer skills in charting, documenting findings (interviews, summaries, reports), legal documents. Teams and Outlook are a bonus.
  • Self-sufficient, well organized, fast and flexible.
  • Great interviewing skills with the ability to stay focused on the original allegation but also know when to follow up on safety concerns.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public.
  • Principles and practices of public health fields, community organizations, and resources, effective teaching methods, research and study methods.
