JOB SUMMARY

Adheres to all hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence. Performs therapeutic Respiratory care procedures. Coordinates patient care needs with physicians/nursing staff. Transcribes/implements physician orders. Uses assessment skills/patient information to maintain awareness and coordinate patient care needs. Troubleshoots and takes steps to correct clinical problems;

refers unusual circumstances to supervision. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Completion of an accredited two-year respiratory care program required. Requires current license through the State of Washington as a Respiratory Therapist (LR) and NBRC registry certification as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Must obtain NBRC registry certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) within one year of hire date. Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must obtain Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certifications within six months of hire date.

Must be able to respond to varying and demanding patient needs in all patient care areas of the hospital.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to safely clean, assemble and use equipment specific to the department. Performs arterial blood gas sampling and results; maintains ABG analyzers, performing all required lab procedures and quality control. Skilled in adult, pediatric and infant resuscitation procedures. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple orders/requests.

Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate, documentation of immunization/immunity against hepatitis B, and training related to blood borne pathogens is required.
