Paraprofessional Special Needs Adult

Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and patient Special Education Teacher or Paraprofessional with experience in autism to provide job support and assistance to a 21-year-old nonverbal adult diagnosed with autism. This position provides direct supervision from 2:45-5:45 daily with some weekend hours. Direct support will take place in the evenings and Saturdays at the client’s house (approximately 25 hours per week).

More hours may be available for general housekeeping if needed. Interviews will take place at Camp Bow Wow Smyrna, 200 Weakley Lane, Smyrna, TN 37167.

• Provide direct care and supervision.
• Encourage and support social, recreational, and vocational activities.
• Assist with communication, using tools such as his phone to assist with texting.
• Manage challenging behaviors with patience and appropriate behavior intervention strategies.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and sensory-friendly environment.
• Keep detailed records of daily activities, incidents, and progress.
• Collaborate with family members, therapists, and other support staff.

• High school diploma or GED required; relevant training or certifications preferred (e.g., CPR, First Aid, CPI).
• Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of autism spectrum disorder and behavioral support techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Background check and references required.

Schedule:

Part-time position with afternoon and weekend hours.
Pay: $20-22 per hour based on experience. Must have strong dependability and be able to manage challenging behaviors if they arise.
