General PurposeThe Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store and for general operations and supervision when acting as the Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors open and close the Store, supervise Associates, maintain a friendly and efficient environment, ensure proper merchandise presentation, keep a clean work area, and execute company operational processes.
EssentialFunctions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
- Understands safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors
- Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe environment and reports unsafe conditions
- Responsible for building security, including entrance/exit control, EAS devices, and cash office security
- Removes clutter and ensures clear egress to emergency exits
- Ensures customer safety, accident prevention and reporting, and emergency procedures
- Tests all fire alarm systems as scheduled and responds to after‑hours alarms when requested
- Treats all customers, associates, and leaders with respect
- Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognizes associates through company programs
- Represents and supports the company brand at all times
- Maintains a professional appearance per the dress code and ensures associates adhere to it
- Keeps all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard
- Responsible for daily trash removal
- Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards
- Receives merchandise truck when needed and processes all merchandise promptly
- Handles non‑merchandise inbound deliveries and maintains cleanliness and organization of stockrooms
- Assists in placing merchandise on the sales floor and secures back‑stock
- Ensures compliance with monthly presentation guidelines and manages floor moves and promotional signage
- Manages re‑wraps as required
- Complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintains a strong customer presence
- Demonstrates integrity, safeguards confidential information, and minimizes loss due to damage
- Maintains the Public View Monitor system and conducts “Code 50” package inspections
- Executes best practices to maximize productivity
- Ensures associates execute front‑end processes to company standards
- Maintains pace, energy, and “presence” at the front end while managing lines to expedite customers
- Trains and coaches associates on cash registers, shortage control, and front‑end procedures
- Controls retail associates’ break schedule for backups and lunches
- Ensures equipment is working properly and supplies are available for the front end
- Ensures go-backs are expedited, scanned, tagged, and ticketed
- Teaches all associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice
- Ensures salability of merchandise on the front end and specialty racks
- Maintains and cleans fitting rooms
- Audits and accounts for fitting room garment tags per company policy
- Ensures go‑back compliance and that all merchandise returned to the floor is ticketed, scanned, and tagged
