The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence‑based practice and research.
RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.
It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, follows system policies and procedures, and supports service excellence goals.
CoreResponsibilities and Essential Functions Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice and analytic/critical thinking to ensure individualized care.
- Provide relationship‑based, patient‑centered care that adapts service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
- Partner with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods such as bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and just‑in‑time/ planned patient teaching.
- Practice using current clinical practice standards.
- Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
- Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner that supports recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Participate and support performance improvement, research utilization, and shared governance at all system levels.
- Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
- Serve as a preceptor/mentor for nurses and staff/students across disciplines to ensure a qualified workforce.
- Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
- Participate in data collection, pose clinical questions, and consult experts using evidence to inform practice.
- Plan patient care across the continuum during direct patient care.
- Assist in developing protocols and procedures to achieve best‑practice outcomes.
- Support efficient use of human and material resources.
Minimum Education
- Graduation from an accredited/approved nursing school (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) from an accredited nursing school (preferred).
- Registered Nurse (Single State) – 1.00 (Required)
- RN – Multi‑State Compact – 1.00 (Required)
- Basic Life Support – 2.00 (Required)
- BLS – Instructor – 2.00 (Required)
- BLS – Provisional – 2.00 (Required)
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills.
- Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment and respond to emergencies decisively and respectfully.
- Excellent time‑management skills.
- Practice nursing using evidence and analytical skills with strong critical thinking.
