This position performs skilled level tasks in the operation of one or more types of heavy motorized equipment and maintenance; does related work as required. Employee must use reasonable care, judgment, and the application of personal knowledge in the performance of maintenance and equipment operation duties. The position will receive instructions and work specifications from the Crew Leader, Operations Manager, or PW Director and communicates to fellow workers under the supervision of an employee of a higher grade who assigns work, reviews performance for skill and efficiency, and assists in cases of difficulty.
EssentialResponsibilities

- Uses extensive knowledge and skill for repair, maintenance, and modification various work assignments.
- Suggests modifications to equipment for safer and more efficient operation.
- Constructs and installs as directed.
- Maintains records and reports in the absence of the Crew Lead.
- Operation of mechanical equipment requiring specialized skills and licenses such as a backhoe, loader, large trucks, tractors, Street Sweeper etc.
- Works under limited supervision.
- Performs specialized tasks.
- Hauls trash to off-site location using Class B license.
- Participates in town-wide snow and ice removal operations.
- Trains new employees in performing assigned duties.
- Ensuring duties and those of staff which position supervises are performed in accordance with all safety regulations.
- Performs similar tasks as assigned, including functions of those in a lower classification.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years in operation and understands of mechanical equipment such as excavator, backhoe, tractor, skid-loader, street sweeper, and trucks.
- 1-2 years of maintenance and repair on mechanical equipment.
- Municipal experience preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge
- The operation of heavy machinery and tools.
- Maintenance and safety protocols of heavy machinery and tools.

- This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Work requires sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and working in an administrative office setting for extended periods of time.
- Work requires the ability to answer the phone, verbally communicate, draft written correspondences, (physical and digital), to perform daily tasks.
- Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Mental acuity is required to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
- Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings…
