Opening in early 2026, Riverside Smithfield Hospital will bring high‑quality healthcare closer to home for Isle of Wight County residents. Located on a beautifully landscaped 27‑acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield
, the new hospital will provide modern facilities and comprehensive medical services to meet the growing needs of the community.
The 200,000‑square‑foot, three‑story facility will offer a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. We anticipate start dates to begin Fall 2025.
What You Will Do- Demonstrate ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served in the Critical Care/Telemetry units/departments.
- Partner with patients and families to develop, implement, and evaluate plan of care, treatments, and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Assess and incorporate evidence‑based standards of practice. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in coordinating care. Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of the plan of care.
- Demonstrate understanding of diverse patient care populations and ability to modify education methods to ensure patient/family comprehension. Educate by assuming responsibility to individualize and coordinate patient education, and discharge‑specific education that includes family/caregiver. Evaluate for patient comprehension and document.
- Delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and ensure patient care needs are met. Recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluate own needs for support and use identified systems to meet need.
- Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to assure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focus on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer’s needs to include current evidence‑based practice and quality measures.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Nursing (preferred) or
- Associate’s Degree, Nursing (preferred) or
- Program Graduate, Nursing (Nursing Diploma is minimum; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma) (required)
- High School Diploma or GED, HS Diploma/GED only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate (required)
- 1 year related experience (preferred)
- Registered Nurse (RN) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or compact state (Under Hire, required)
- CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Upon Hire, required)
- ACLS Provider – AHA/ARC within 90 days (required)
- PALS Provider – AHA/ARC within 180 days (required)
- Trauma Certified RN (TNCC) within 1 year (preferred)
- Emergency Pediatric Certified RN (ENPC) within 1 year (preferred)
