Overview: Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Director; responsible for assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating total nursing care of assigned patients. Utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a patient-specific care plan. Supervises and delegates non-professional personnel to ensure optimal patient care. Demonstrates competence in addressing age‑related needs of the patient populations served.
Works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive services aligned with Riverside Health standards and strategic goals.
- Demonstrate ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice related to specialty and patient population; demonstrate unit-specific competencies and equipment training.
- Partner with patients and their families to develop, implement, and evaluate a care plan, incorporating evidence‑based standards of practice and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in care coordination.
- Show sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput, ensuring consistent, competent, and ethical care; focus on quality outcomes for each patient.
- Understand diverse patient care populations; modify education methods to ensure patient/family understanding; coordinate and deliver individualized education and discharge instructions; evaluate comprehension and document.
- Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Delegate and prioritize tasks to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence; recognize and respond to emergency situations; evaluate resources and support needed and use systems to ensure needs are met.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Nursing (Preferred) or Associate’s Degree, Nursing (Preferred) or Program Graduate, Nursing (Nursing Diploma is minimum education requirement, Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma) – Required
- High School Diploma or GED, HS Diploma/GED only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate – Required
- Registered Nurse (RN) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state – Required
- CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute – Required
