Johnston County Department of Social Services has an immediate opening for a Lead Worker. The Lead worker will provide professional human services work, assisting the Income Maintenance Supervisor II, with the Income Maintenance Program of Family and Children’s Medicaid. This position will serve as lead worker over IMC II level income maintenance; provide training for new staff and existing staff regarding the NC Fast computer system;
conducting second party reviews and covering vacant caseloads as deemed necessary to meet business needs.
- Position will perform general office work such as answering telephone, typing filing, computer inquiries, etc.
- Position will use required policy/data entry manuals as guides when determining past and present eligibility for all aid/program categories.
- Aid with program monitoring, specifically in the area of Quality Assurance and preparation of cases for review.
- Monitor incoming applications & recertifications in order to distribute work accordingly when the Supervisor is absent or unavailable.
- The Lead Worker will provide training and support to lower-level Income Maintenance Caseworkers as needed.
- The Lead Worker assist with maintenance of caseload for Family and Children’s Medicaid recipients.
- The Lead Worker will participate in all activities that are needed to determine initial eligibility and ongoing eligibility of the clients to receive benefits.
- Assist teleworkers with printing, office needs, and questions.
- Will monitor the work of teleworking IMC IIs.
- Work and Maintain FRR/BEER reports.
- Assist with completion of Medicaid Verification Reports.
- Provides recommendations for employment actions such as hiring, promotions, demotions, disciplinary actions, and dismissals.
- Responsible for preparing documents for hearings.
- Perform 2nd Party reviews for IMC II and provide refresher trainings for error trends.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to compute complex equations using information technology, as well as addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and percentages.
- Ability to use information technology to enter client information, determine eligibility and enter documentation.
- Ability to apply analytical thinking and deductive reasoning to arrive at reasonable judgments.
- Ability to interpret and apply county, state, and federal regulations, policies and procedures in specific case situations.
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively, with a wide variety of people/clients, staff and supervisors, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with diverse populations.
- Ability to understand medical and vocational terminology and legal principles.
- Ability to organize and consolidate information, maintain records, prepare reports, formulate treatment plans and compete other caseload management functions.
- Possess and demonstrate the ability to engage and teach staff skills needed to perform assigned work tasks including use of computer systems and software.
- Possess and demonstrate the ability to convey effective verbal skills as well as writing skills.
- Ability to perform all functions to carry out Income Maintenance casework when covering vacant caseloads.
- Ability to intervene and assess client complaints, provide feedback to client caseworker, supervisors and IM Administrators.
- Thorough knowledge of Family and Children’s Medicaid and NC FAST
- Ability to conduct interview/assessments, summarize and interpret findings.
- Knowledge of agency and community programs and services which could assist client.
Education and Experience
Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
