The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

** Description of Work
** This position is located at Johnston Correctional Facility in Smithfield NC. Positions in this class perform the full range of journey work duties associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning systems and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and control mechanisms. In addition, positions maintain refrigeration units and their control systems.

** Working knowledge of refrigeration theory. Working knowledge of operating (BAU) building automation systems. Working knowledge of troubleshooting of electricity sufficient to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical control systems.

This candidate for this Maintenance HVAC Technician (HVAC Mechanic I) position, shall have experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, equipment, and machinery; be able to work independently to complete work assignments received by a supervisor; read and interpret blueprints; and perform other assigned duties.

/Management Preferences:
** Demonstrated experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, including but not limited to chillers, air handlers, pumps, ventilators, fans, boilers, piping, mini splits, etc**.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart

F.Documented knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
