Learning Disability Services Manager, Slough Mencap
Slough Mencap was started in 1952 by a group of parents to enrich the lives of learning-disabled adults and children and to support their families and carers. We have successfully secured our own premises and continue to provide numerous activities for learning disabled adults and we hire out the hall to local community organisations.
Currently we have a team of 6 part-time staff, along with volunteers and trustees many of whom also volunteer in the Activity Days. We are open on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm and Wednesday evening from 6.30 to 9.00 pm.
The successful candidate will build on Slough Mencap’s history and current success by helping to raise funds, and developing more projects and activities for existing and new participants. We require that the successful candidate will have relevant skills, at least 2 years’ experience of working in a charity or small business and be able to manage and prioritise tasks, often dealing with multiple tasks and a strong interruption factor.
Responsibilities
Manage a voluntary sector organisation with paid staff and volunteers, in conjunction with the Board of Trustees,Set and maintaining professional standardsBe committed to developing and supporting staff and volunteersSupport our ethos of person-centered service delivery and activities and is aware of safeguarding responsibilitiesUnderstand the lived experience of adults with learning disabilities, long-term health conditions and inequality and want to improve their lives and ensure they have enriching life experiencesCan communicate well with service users, partners, staff, trustees and fundersEnjoy influencing and raising local awareness of the needs of learning-disabled peopleBe confident in managing budgets and seeking funding opportunities and develop project plansCan work with the Board of Trustees to help create a positive vision and strategic plan and implement agreed objectivesBe an ambassador for Slough Mencap at meetings with stakeholders, statutory and voluntary sectorsBuild positive relationships with service users, their families/carers local authorities, healthcare partners and stakeholdersOversee contracts with community organisations and hirers of buildingsOversee petty cash and invoicingMaintain compliance with health and safety, safeguarding and equalities policiesAny other duties commensurate with the role#J-18808-Ljbffr
