Job Description 3 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to deliver high-quality housing management services to residents and ensure estates and tenancies are managed effectively.

The officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of homes, dealing with tenancy matters, anti-social behaviour, estate management, rent arrears, and resident engagement while ensuring services meet legal, regulatory, and council standards.

The role also supports the Neighbourhood Manager and helps improve housing services and resident satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Manage tenancies including sign-ups, tenancy visits, and tenancy audits.

Address breaches of tenancy and lease agreements.

Provide tenancy support to residents.

Carry out estate inspections and walkabouts.

Ensure communal areas and services are well maintained.

Coordinate with repairs and maintenance teams.

Work with partners such as police and community agencies.

Take enforcement action where necessary and prepare court documentation.

Work with rent recovery teams to manage arrears.

Monitor service charges and invoice queries.

Manage area budgets and ensure spending follows council procedures.

Monitor empty properties and ensure they are re-let quickly.

Work with internal teams to minimise rent loss.

Support resident involvement activities.

Ensure residents can influence services and policies.

Respond to complex complaints and service requests.

Prepare responses for MPs, councillors, and senior leaders.

Work closely with internal departments, contractors, and external partners.

Ensure services are coordinated and meet residents’ needs.

Ensure compliance with housing legislation, health & safety policies, and council procedures.

Requirements

Significant experience working in a housing management role.

Experience managing workload and working within a team.

Experience dealing with tenancy management, rent arrears, and ASB cases.

Strong communication and report writing skills.

Ability to solve problems and make decisions.

Good customer service and relationship-building skills.

Ability to interpret housing policies and procedures.
