Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Endoscopy Unit at Wexham Park Hospital. As a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in supporting medical and nursing colleagues while contributing directly to patient safety and high-quality care.

The post holder will deliver a comprehensive and effective decontamination service across the Endoscopy Unit, inpatient wards, departments and peripheral outpatient clinics. This role is essential in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and compliance with national decontamination guidance.

Main duties of the job

Inspect used endoscopic equipment prior to cleaning, identifying and escalating any faults, damage or discrepancies to the Decontamination Lead.

Undertake manual cleaning of flexible endoscopes in accordance with national decontamination standards, ensuring accurate documentation is maintained.

Operate washer-disinfectors safely, including loading and unloading endoscopes, and report any equipment issues promptly.

Perform routine water testing in line with established guidelines and report results as required.

Identify damaged endoscopes and arrange timely return to approved external repair providers.

Participate in role-specific training and complete all Trust mandatory training requirement.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • Achievement of an appropriate endoscopy technician training programme.
  • Achievement of endoscopic washer/disinfector training
Experience
  • Experience working in healthcare environment
  • Experience of working within the Endoscopy Decontamination environment as a technician.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Good communication skills and organisational skills. (Verbal and written)
  • Able to work under supervision and independently when required
  • Ability to work as a member of a small team
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Achievement of endoscopic washer/disinfector training
  • Achievement of an appropriate endoscopy technician training programme
Special Requirements
  • Flexibility within contracted hours to meet the demands of the department
