Position: Staff Nurse - Ward 2 Surgical Emergency Unit / SDEC

Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for registered nurses with surgical experience or any other background, who have a keen interest in Surgery to join our dynamic team on Ward 2 SEU & SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care).

Ward 2 is a 16 bedded ward caring for General Surgical, Urology, Plastic and ENT patients. We are also proud of establishing a new service SDEC with trolley/chaired area for assessment, treatment and ambulatory care to provide Same Day Emergency Care for surgical and urology patients.

We are looking for a keen band 5 nurse, preferably with surgical experience, interested in full‑time work (37.5 hours per week) or part‑time consideration.

Must have a keen interest within a surgical field and a friendly, positive attitude, and be an active team member.

Main duties of the job: responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision; assist in the monitoring of performance and work of the Nursing Team, providing education and support as appropriate; regularly take charge of the shift, managing the shift as safely and effectively as possible.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Current NMC Registration.
  • Evidence of recent Continuous Professional Development.
  • Working towards gaining a mentorship course.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching certificate.
  • Mentorship preparation for healthcare professionals.
  • Nursing degree or working towards a degree.
  • Acute care module.
Skills and Knowledge Essential criteria
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Awareness of current professional nursing issues.
  • Interest in named/primary nursing, nursing research, health and promotion.
Desirable criteria
  • Surgical Knowledge.
Experience Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience in Acute surgical or medical area.
  • General Nursing experience for inpatient setting.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Evidence of high standards of clinical practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Surgical and/or urology experience.
  • Post‑registration experience.
  • General Nursing experience for emergency setting.
