Band 7 - Practice Development Senior Sister/Charge Nurse

Wexham Park Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join the Senior Nursing Team within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU Blue, AMU Green, and Medical Same Day Emergency Care – SDEC) at Wexham Park Hospital. This Band 7 role specialises in Practice Development and will involve working closely alongside the Lead Practice Development Nurse.

The Senior Nursing Team comprises a Clinical Matron, two Ward Managers, one SDEC Manager, and two Practice Development Nurses who collectively support and oversee the above clinical areas.

We are seeking applications from nurses with a strong passion for clinical education and practice development, and a clear commitment to ensuring that high-quality, safe, and compassionate care is consistently delivered to patients. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting, developing, and enhancing clinical practice across the units.

Applicants must have relevant post-registration experience and have worked in a recent acute clinical role.

This is a 12-month maternity leave cover post, offered as either a fixed‑term contract or a second‑ment opportunity
.

Main duties of the job
  • To facilitate clinical staff in the specialty, in identifying opportunities for maintaining and improving standards of patient care.
  • To support and facilitate innovation in care provision in a structured and systematic way.
  • To offer professional guidance and support to clinical staff.
  • To develop guidelines and implement developments in practice, and ensure these are audited.
  • To co‑ordinate education and training provision.
  • To assist with Quality Improvement projects across Acute Medicine.
  • To support the Clinical Matron and Ward Managers to deliver safe and timely care.
  • To work collaboratively with other specialities within the Emergency Assessment Centre.

Person specification Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Current NMC registrant
  • ENB 997/998, mentor preparation, PA or equivalent
  • BSc/BA/B Adult Nursing Degree

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching Qualification (e.g. PG Cert)
  • MSc or working towards
  • Experience of working in a clinical education role
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous experience in a variety of clinical areas
  • Experience of change management
  • Experience of teaching / leading study days

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience in an acute clinical care setting
  • Experience of Clinical Audit
Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Able to motivate team to ensure high quality care
  • Teaching training and assessment skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to prepare, deliver and evaluate presentations.
  • Excellent Time Management

Desirable criteria
