Part Time Receptionist required for a busy GP surgery in Kings Langley & Bovingdon, Herts. 17 to 22 hours per week. AM shift 7.45‑1.45, PM shift 1.45‑6.45. Flexible additional cover for holidays and sickness is required.
Main DutiesMain duties include answering telephones, completing Elite triage forms for those who are unable to do it online, face‑to‑face patient contact, appointment and general enquiries, and signposting patients while maintaining an effective and friendly front‑of‑house service.
You will also learn administrative support for our triage system and work alongside the GPs on a rota basis. Experience desirable but not essential; computer skills essential and full training will be provided.
About UsWe are a large practice in Kings Langley with a branch surgery in Bovingdon. We serve a practice population of 15,500 patients across two sites. The team includes 7 GP partners, 4 salaried GPs, a nursing team, and additional health professionals (clinical pharmacists, first contact physicians, health & wellbeing coach, mental health nurse, etc.). We have a large administrative team based at Kings Langley, and everyone is very friendly and supportive.
Your main role will be at either Kings Langley, our Bovingdon branch, or potentially a mix of both, so own transport is essential.

- Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective manner.
- Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures.
- Work in accordance with protocols.
- Scan and photocopy as required.
- Front‑of‑house reception: greet patients and consult with members of the practice team.
- Hand correspondence to patients, diligently checking their identity.
- Cover other shifts for annual and sick leave.
- Ensure the waiting area and reception area are tidy at all times.
- Monitor clinicians’ running times and advise patients if the clinic is running late.
- Ensure the reception area is tidy at the end of all clinics.
- Respect patient confidentiality.
- Have visitors sign in the visitors book.
- Perform ad‑hoc duties as agreed with the practice manager.
- Ensure rooms and computers are switched on and ready for GPs and nurses at the start of the day.
- Ensure the TV screen and check‑in service is ready for patients.
- Direct patients to relevant resources for triage submissions.
- Book nursing team appointments.
- Handle cancellations and changes of appointments.
- Enter data into medical records.
- Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines.
- Complete e‑consult forms on behalf of patients who are unable to do so themselves.
- Open post and allocate as necessary.
- Maintain a daily tasks list.
- Phone patients as and when needed.
- Ensure forms are always available (registration, change of address, etc.).
- Code into patient records correctly if required.
- Keep information folders up to date (e.g., RESPECT folder).
- Book ambulance appointments.
- Liaise with district nurses and health visitors.
- Perform scanning tasks as needed.
- Ensure rooms are tidy and computers are switched off at end of day.
- Maintain building security, including knowledge of doors, windows, and alarm system.
- Perform any other tasks allocated by managers.
