Thames Water is looking for a Smart Meter Operability Manager to be the operational heartbeat that keeps the estate running at its best, maximising performance, meeting regulatory commitments and driving customer satisfaction: our smart meters power accurate billing, faster problem resolution and better water management.
What you’ll be doing as our Smart Meter Operability Manager- Lead and coach the operations team to keep the smart meter estate fully functional—diagnose issues fast, resolve faults first time, and optimise installation and maintenance.
- Own regulatory reporting to Ofwat, ensure PCD commitments are met, and manage investigation workloads and budgets.
- Work across field services, suppliers and network teams to prioritise meters impacting billing and compliance.
- Identify and fix root causes, using insights to reduce truck rolls and improve first‑time fix.
- Champion data quality and keep firmware and apps up to date across the meter estate.
- Improve customer communications and introduce new channels where needed.
- Drive continuous improvement through supplier engagement and process feedback.

Hours:
36 hours per week
- Smart metering expertise. Strong understanding of AMI, MDMS and the broader meter asset technology suite.
- Operational leadership. Proven experience running smart metering operations with a focus on safety, quality, SLA adherence and continuous improvement.
- Insight to action. A track record of using data to build and deliver action plans that lift operability and customer outcomes.
- Supplier management. Confident leading multi‑supplier performance to drive accountability and results.
- People leadership. You coach, empower and set clear standards—owning problems through to resolution.
- Stakeholder influence. Comfortable collaborating across field services, delivery, technical, audit, retail and network teams to land change.
- Resilience and drive. You’re solutions‑focused, tenacious and calm under pressure—keeping teams moving forward.
- A competitive starting salary of £63,000 per annum.
