Position: MEDICAL ASSISTANT - SLIPPERY ROCK FAM MED

Overview

PART-TIME: $1,000 Sign-On Bonus
** The Medical Assistant performs basic direct patient care activities (lab tests, treatments, and medication/immunization administration) under the direction of the Nurse and/or physician in preparation for patient examination and treatment. The incumbent carries out clerical activities, quality control activities, performance improvement initiatives, etc., in support of the physician practice. This position also serves as a resource for clerical/clinical staff in the practice.

Job Functions
  • Deliver direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital/physician policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • collect patient healthcare data (vital signs, weight, chief complaint, pain assessment) as directed.
  • Complete patient care treatments and testing as ordered.
  • Comply with complete, accurate, and timely documentation.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Communicate pertinent information about actual or potential problems to the physician or nurse.
  • Perform clerical functions in support of patient care and office operations (answer phone calls, relay messages).
  • Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information; enter into the billing system.
  • Enter diagnosis-based codes and charges into the billing system; complete forms and letters for continued patient care.
  • Provide patient safety in compliance with policies; label specimens per policy; adhere to infection control procedures (standard precautions).
  • Assist in continuous survey readiness and compliance with inspections.
  • Perform quality control and monitoring functions; report out-of-range information to supervisor.
  • Practice National Patient Safety Goals consistently.
  • Schedule surgeries, procedures, and testing for patients as applicable.
  • Exit counseling including education, scheduling of testing, and provision of necessary information.
  • Prepare charts for clinic sessions; obtain vital signs and weight; prepare exam rooms and stock supplies daily.
  • Provide pre- and post-examination education and counseling.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or next level of higher education.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, independent and critical thinking skills; sound judgment; knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex topics to a diverse audience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook and Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous outpatient office experience.
License, Certification & Clearances
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
  • Act 33 with renewal;
    Act 34 with renewal;
    Act 73 FBI Clearance;
    Friends & Family CPR.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
  • Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.

Work Environment

Effective March 2020 or during pandemic: goggles, face shield, and mask are required per CDC guidelines. If lift requirements exceed 50 pounds, lift assistance (2-person) or a transfer device is required.
