Position SummaryPART-TIME: $1,000 Sign-On Bonus The Medical Assistant performs basic direct patient care activities, such as lab tests, treatments, and medication/immunization administration under the direction of the Nurse and/or the Physician. The incumbent also supports clerical and quality improvement functions and serves as a resource for clerical/clinical staff.
Essential Job Functions- Deliver direct and indirect patient care in accordance with policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Collect patient healthcare data (VS, weight, chief complaint, pain assessment).
- Complete patient care treatments and testing as ordered.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Communicate pertinent information to the physician or nurse.
- Perform clerical functions in support of patient care and office functions.
- Answer telephone calls accurately and relay messages.
- Obtain and verify accurate patient demographic and insurance information.
- Enter codes and charges into the billing system.
- Complete necessary forms and letters for continued patient care.
- Provide patient safety in compliance with policies.
- Label all patient specimens with identifiers per policy.
- Adhere to infection control standards.
- Assist in continuous survey readiness or inspections and surveys.
- Perform quality control monitoring functions and report out of range information immediately to supervisor.
- Consistently practice National Patient Safety Goals.
- Schedule surgery, procedures, and testing for patients.
- Provide education, scheduling, and counseling as requested.
- Prepare charts for clinic sessions and obtain vital signs and weight.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures and document results.
- Prepare exam rooms and stock supplies daily.
- Provide pre and post‑examination education and counseling.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED, or next level of higher education.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex topics to a wide and diverse audience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Excel).
- Previous outpatient office experience.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Act 33 with renewal.
- Act 34 with renewal.
- Act 73 FBI Clearance.
- Friends & Family CPR.
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work- Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on‑call, etc.).
- Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
