Special Instructions

Copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts are required (unofficial copies fine for the application process). The final candidate must provide official transcripts on file with the university, submitted to Human Resources. Recommended candidates will complete criminal background check (Act 34, Act 151 Child Abuse, Federal Criminal clearance) prior to appointment. Position Summary

Slippery Rock University is a leading institution in the Pennsylvania State System. The Department of Languages, Literatures, Cultures, and Writing seeks temporary faculty to teach English 102 (Critical Writing) and English 104 (Critical Reading) in the Rock Studies general education program. Full-time faculty hired will teach a 5/3 course load. Possible other courses depending on qualifications and experience.

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach English 102 (Critical Writing) and English 104 (Critical Reading).
  • Develop and deliver engaging instruction using active learning techniques.
  • Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and syllabus reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD, ABD, or MFA in English required.
  • Evidence of engaging students in active learning both within and beyond the classroom.
  • Fluency in writing across the curriculum pedagogy.
  • Successful performance in an interview and teaching demonstration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in first-year writing.
  • Participation in assessment of individual basic writing and reading courses for periodic, standardized department review and university-wide Middle States (or comparable national standard).
  • Interdisciplinary interests or expertise beyond English is a plus.
