Security Officer – Slidell Memorial Hospital – East
This job follows established procedures and, under the supervision of the shift supervisor, provides security for patients, employees, and guests in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. The incumbent enforces company policies and performs assigned duties that ensure the security of patients, guests, and employees in a courteous and professional manner.

Responsibilities- Enforces all company safety and security rules, regulations, and policies on company property.
- Conducts routine inspections of on‑site and off‑site locations.
- Investigates accidents and incidents as assigned and reports all occurrences in a timely manner.
- Performs safety and security related duties as assigned in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Participates in emergency response and related preparedness drills.
- Maintains required annual certifications and completes training requirements within required time periods.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy, appropriately introducing oneself, and adapting communication style.
- Other related duties as required.
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience
- 1 year in security, law enforcement, or military.
- Previous or current armed police officer with Louisiana or Federal law enforcement agency (reserve status acceptable) who has had arrest power and been in an active law enforcement capacity.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
- Completion of Certified Police Officer or Standard Training Policy Academy (state, federal, or military).
- Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification or Military Police equivalent.
- Valid Louisiana driver’s license and clean DMV report.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) and firearms training.
- International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Certification to be obtained within 90 days of promotion/hire.
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of the FTO Program within the first 60 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
- Proficient with Windows–style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
- Considered Team A Essential Personnel and must report for duty in the event of a disaster.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability).
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently. The job may involve walking or standing for significant periods and requires occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling. Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue is minimal but may occur. The incumbent works with patients who may have communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms.
There may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste.
