Medical Assistant - Psychiatry Clinic

Medical Assistant - Psychiatry Clinic at Ochsner Health provides individualized medical care of assigned patients in person, electronically and via telephone under the supervision of a licensed health care provider. Assists in the delivery of health care services to patients of various backgrounds and ages and maintains positive relationships with patients and their families. Works effectively with fellow employees to ensure the efficient flow of patients throughout their visit, providing support to them as well as to the attending physician.

Communicates via phone to ensure patient needs are met timely and accurately. Accesses the company's data systems to document pertinent medical information.

• Provide individualized medical care to assigned patients in person, electronically, and via telephone under supervision.
• Assist in delivering health care services to patients of various backgrounds and ages; maintain positive relationships with patients and families.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure efficient flow of patients throughout visits; provide support to patients and the attending physician.
• Communicate with patients by phone to ensure needs are met timely and accurately.
• Access and document pertinent medical information in the company’s data systems.
• Provide excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person.
• Complete appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary.
• Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials through ongoing professional development.
• Respect privacy and adapt explanations and communication to the specific patient population.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Education
  :
  Required – High school diploma
• Work Experience
  :
  Preferred – Completion of a formal medical assistant training program.
• Experience:
  
  Required – Experience working with confidential information in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Certifications
  :
  Required – Medical Assistant Certification;
  Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

• Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (

• Most duties require exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue.
