Maintenance Worker, General Labor, Building Maintenance

Overview

The Village of Skokie is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Worker I in the Water & Sewer Division of our Public Works Dept.

• Repair and maintenance of the Village’s water lines, water mains, inlet tiles, sewer tiles, restrictors & regulators, manholes, and fire hydrants.
• Clean and maintain holding tanks.
• Operate departmental equipment including dump truck, Vac-All, jet truck, backhoe, loader, and television truck.
• Interpret water & sewer infrastructure maps to identify isolation points for water mains and flow directions for sewer mains.
• May also assist in Village-wide snow removal efforts.
• Restore street & parkway excavations.
• Work in confined spaces as required.
• Clean, wash and assist with routine maintenance of vehicles.
• Be available for occasional overtime and to respond to off-hour emergencies.
• Perform other work-related duties, as assigned.

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must possess valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 90 days of employment.
• Must be familiar with use of various hand tools.
• Must be in good physical condition and able to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
• Maintenance Workers are subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
• The successful completion of a physical examination, including a drug test, is required prior to employment.

The starting hourly pay range for this position is $31.93 - $33.55 (DOQ). Rate increases may be awarded based on performance and after the successful completion of a 24-month probation period.
