Assistant Director for Student Services

REPORTS TO: Associate Principal for Curriculum

SUPERVISES: Licensed and non-licensed staff as assigned

POSITION OBJECTIVE: To assist the Associate Principal for Curriculum and the Director of Counseling with the coordination of all student services in compliance with federal and state regulations, and district/building policies and procedures; to assist all students to achieve personal, social, and academic success.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Illinois Public Educator License, General Administrative Endorsement, and Teacher Evaluator designation required
  • Master's degree in education, or a related services field (school psychology, school social work, etc.), Ph.D, Psy.

    D, or Ed.D preferred
  • Experience in implementation and ensuring compliance with special education and 504 regulations and legislation
  • Supervisory and/or leadership experience in student services and special education programs including leading Section 504 meetings and/or IEP meetings
  • Experience collaborating with and supporting School Social Workers and School Psychologists
  • Experience with Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS)
  • REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Ability to read, interpret, and explain materials from Board policy, administrative procedures, professional journals, and legal documents, including Illinois School Code
    • Ability to problem solve, make independent decisions, and effectuate change
    • Good verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated leadership ability to work with high school students and adults
    • Ability to interpret and analyze data, and produce high-quality presentations and documents
    • Ability to deal with difficult situations courteously, tactfully, and with discretion and good judgment

    • Ability to administer, interpret, and report evaluation results for the purpose of special education eligibility determination

      • Supervises and evaluates licensed and non licensed staff
      • Enforces the district's personnel policies
      • Participates in the recruitment, screening, hiring, assigning, and training of department personnel
      • Assists with recommendations for tenure and dismissal
      • Assists with coordinating the assignment of student interns for designated areas in the department - if they are requested by departmental staff
    • Assists with Maintenance of Departmental Budget
      • Prepares and administers the departmental budget
