Job Description
New Directions Education is seeking dedicated, full-time SEND Teaching Assistants to join a highly supportive specialist school in Skelmersdale. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and who can bring compassion, commitment, and enthusiasm to this highly rewarding role.
About the School :- A specialist SEND setting supporting children with profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex medical needs, and significant communication challenges.
- A skilled, experienced staff team with excellent facilities including sensory rooms, therapy areas, and adapted learning environments designed to meet complex needs.
- A warm, inclusive school community where every child is valued, celebrated, and supported to reach their full potential.
- Provide consistent, full-time support within a PMLD provision for pupils aged 4–11.
- Assist with structured routines, sensory-based activities, therapeutic programmes, and personalised learning plans.
- Support children with mobility, physiotherapy tasks (training provided), and the use of specialist equipment.
- Help maintain a safe, calm, and nurturing learning environment tailored to the needs of pupils with complex needs.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND—particularly PMLD, complex needs, or physical / medical needs.
- Experience from education, care, social care, the NHS, residential support, or disability services is highly valued.
- Confident supporting personal care and physical needs.
- Able to commit to full-time hours from January and provide employment references within the last 5 years
- Willing to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide references from the last 5 years.
