KeyFunctions and Accountabilities
- Promote SEARHC’s Seven Standards of Excellence; provide safe, therapeutic, and efficient care using appropriate infection control. Prioritize care based on acuity and patient preference, anticipate problems, and adapt to changes. Initiate, manage, and document nursing procedures in accordance with scientific principles and departmental policy.
- Accomplish comprehensive nursing assessment through interview, observation, and the nursing process. Identify problems and nursing diagnoses, develop and implement individualized care plans, and coordinate with the healthcare team.
- Impart educational knowledge to enhance decision making. Organize and participate in patient care conferences, develop and implement educational programs, and maintain documentation of education delivered.
- Communicate with staff, patients, families, and the healthcare team in a supportive and constructive manner. Provide feedback, orient new staff, and guide others in selecting appropriate nursing interventions.
- Attend and participate in at least 50% of departmental staff meetings, comply with scheduling guidelines, and complete required competencies and certifications.
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state.
- BLS required at hire.
- ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- TNCC required for ED nurses.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years.
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually.
- One year’s clinical nurse experience preferred.
- Prior experience in specialty areas preferred.
- Knowledge of nursing care principles, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Competency to recognize emergently ill patients and act promptly in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of general pharmaceuticals, their effects, and complications.
- Skill to operate and monitor basic medical equipment and specialty area equipment.
- Ability to guide, lead, and work cooperatively with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to implement therapeutic interventions based on nursing diagnoses and evidence‑based practice.
- Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands to manipulate equipment and reach with arms.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must lift and/or move 50 lbs.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Red Cross, Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association, Clinical Competency Assessment – SEARHC, High Risk Competency – SEARHC, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association.
