Examples of Duties- Administer eye examinations, knowledge (rules of the road) exams, and skills/behind the wheel tests to ensure that only qualified residents of South Dakota are issued a driver’s license. During the skills test, direct applicants through the test route, evaluate their driving performance, critique their performance, and determine whether it is satisfactory or not, placing any required restrictions on the license.
- Process license and identification card applications, compute and accept fees, issue receipts, and maintain transaction records.
- Provide assistance and information to the public and other agencies through direct, telephone, and mail contact.
- Fill in and verify data on application forms, enter information, compile and tabulate data, and verify accuracy of computer entries.
- Count and balance cash, credit cards, and check payments, run payments against program totals, and correct errors.
- Travel as required. During travel you may be required to lift equipment that weighs between 60–70 lbs.

The Ideal Candidate Will HaveA high school diploma is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required.
Knowledge Of- South Dakota driver’s manual requirements pertaining to the safe operation of motor vehicles.

- Multi‑task diverse and complex activities.
- Maintain train of thought despite frequent interruptions.
- Lift and carry 60 pounds or more in and out of vehicles and up and down stairs and/or on and off counters.
- Objectively grade an applicant’s driving ability.
- Conduct assigned duties in a uniform and standardized manner.
- Operate computers, cameras, printers, and license processing equipment.
- Travel and be away from home 1 to 4 days in a week, including some overnight stays.
