Medium Voltage Electrician

overview

work involves installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining high voltage electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines. It also involves most of the following: installing or repairing any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment; working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications; locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment;

working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment; and using a variety of electrician's hand tools and measuring and testing instruments. Requires comprehensive trade knowledge of electrical principles and system operations.

• demonstrate safe work habits, comply with company safety requirements
• experience in high voltage underground termination/splicing
• experience in overhead line maintenance/construction
• proper care for material, tools and equipment
• operates power tools such as drills, saws, pullers, tuggers, etc
• experience with bucket truck/digger derrick operations
• requires knowledge of process, procedures, and methods
• requires the use of common courtesy in everyday contacts with employees, clients, and the general public
• night/weekend work as required, with potential for extended hours as needed for emergency calls
• work as required in varying weather climates
• the ability to travel out of town and stay overnight as required
• class a cdl driver’s license or the ability to obtain

• must be able to physically lift up to and in excess of 75 pounds
• must be able to climb ladders and steep stairs, crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, pushing and pulling objects
• repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers
• ability to wear personal protective equipment
• ability to work at elevated heights on ladders and/or scaffolds
• specific vision abilities required
• must be able to physically work up to ten to twelve hour days, sometimes in extreme weather conditions.
