Operations Manager, Program / Project Manager
Overview
Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Heavy Civil Construction | Concrete & Trucking Operations. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will lead all operational functions for a fast-growing, second-generation, family-owned heavy civil construction company. The organization has grown from approximately 70 to 160 employees in five years, recently completed an acquisition, and is projected to exceed $100M in annual revenue in the coming year.
Reporting directly to ownership, the COO will assume full responsibility for day-to-day operations while building scalable systems, developing leaders, and driving performance across the business. This is a hands-on executive role for a construction operator who thrives in growth environments and understands how to scale people, processes, and profitability.
- Lead and oversee operations across civil construction, concrete, and trucking divisions
- Manage a leadership team of approximately 10 direct reports, including division managers, project managers, estimators, and functional leaders
- Ensure successful execution of $1MM-$15MM projects, delivered safely, on time, and on budget
- Standardize operating systems, workflows, and performance metrics across divisions and locations
- Establish and track KPIs related to safety, productivity, quality, and profitability
- Build and maintain a strong, safety-first culture
- Develop and mentor leaders to support continued growth and acquisitions
- Partner closely with ownership on strategic planning, budgeting, and expansion initiatives
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience in heavy civil construction or related fields; bachelor's degree strongly preferred
- Strong civil construction background with experience in organizations of 100+ employees
- Proven success scaling operations during periods of rapid growth
- Strong operational and financial acumen
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to balance strategy and execution
- Experience supporting or integrating acquisitions is a plus
- Significant bonus potential, with substantial upside tied to company results
