Description
The Structural Department Head is accountable for the overall leadership, performance, and direction of the Structural Department. This position plays a key role in the company's EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), ensuring the right people are in the right seats, Rocks are achieved, and accountability is clear across the team.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong leadership, technical, and project management experience. This role includes proposal writing, team development, workload management, and client relationship oversight.
Requirements Leadership & EOS Accountability- Leads, manages, and holds staff accountable (LMA) using EOS tools and language.
- Ensures department alignment with company vision, core values, and strategic goals.
- Conducts weekly department meetings to discuss project status, budgets, workloads, staffing, and key updates.
- Establishes and monitors individual and team utilization goals; identifies and solves issues (IDS).
- Collaborates with leadership on department Rocks.
- Oversees day-to-day workload, project assignments, and resource planning.
- Actively involved in hiring, onboarding, development, corrective actions, and terminations.
- Conducts performance reviews, approves training requests, and supports professional growth.
- Mentors and coaches staff.
- Provides QA/QC and technical direction on structural projects.
- Ensures projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard.
- Supports cross-functional collaboration with other departments.
- Leads proposal efforts including writing, scope development, fee estimation, and coordination.
- Maintains strong client relationships.
- Ensures responsiveness, client satisfaction, and high-quality deliverables.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in structural engineering with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- Proven experience managing people, leading projects, and writing successful proposals.
- Strong organizational, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Familiarity with EOS or willingness to adopt and lead using EOS tools.
