Overview

Position

Purpose:

The purpose of an intern within the PCB internship program is to learn a variety of customer-facing banking functions in areas of Retail and Lending. This includes understanding all products and services that enhance the customer’s loan and deposit relationship with the bank, including digital banking, Trust account relationships, IRA products, making credit decisions for ag/commercial and consumer loans, overall credit administration duties, and opportunities to contribute to fee income.

During the learning process, the intern will have hands-on opportunities to provide high-level customer service in person and by phone in various capacities, including operating a teller drawer for customers and meeting with clients in a private office. Customers may be existing in need of account/loan maintenance and general assistance, or prospects seeking new banking relationships with deposit or loan products.

The intern will move through various departments seeking guidance from assigned team-leaders and will report directly to the Market President within the assigned bank.

Qualities of the successful candidate include:

  • Currently attending an accredited college, university, or technical school in pursuit of a degree
  • Must be majoring in Business, Finance, Economics, Banking, Agribusiness, or related major
  • Basic understanding of financial and accounting principles
  • Attention to detail and exhibit good customer relations skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Acknowledge understanding and adherence to the policies and programs outlined in the Employee Handbook, including Code of Ethics, by signing the Acknowledgement Statement

Responsibilities of this position include (but not limited to):

  • Operate a teller drawer to serve customers and bank personnel in lobby or drive-up
  • Recognize potential cross-sell opportunities and direct customers to appropriate bank personnel
  • Introduction to lending and loan policy
  • Introduction to appraisal and special assets
  • Introduction to credit administration and underwriting
  • Develop skills to recognize potential fraud and report to management as necessary
  • Support the overall branch product promotion goals to include ATM cards, direct deposit, electronic banking, or referrals for other Bank products
  • Support customers with maintenance questions related to their accounts. This may include address changes, check orders and other account information
  • Comply with all department, bank and regulatory policies and procedures. Protect customer confidentiality and privacy
  • Responsible for upholding Plains Commerce Bank’s culture which may include participating in community events
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to keep the Bank operating efficiently and effectively
