REQUIREMENTS Qualifications- EDUCATION LEVEL:
Bachelor’s degree with endorsements in the teaching assignment;
South Dakota teaching certificate. - EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
At least one year of work experience involving interpersonal interaction and strategies to support students with challenging behaviors. - PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination and hearing; ability to provide physical management to students with behavior or self-care needs. - OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent oral and written communication; skills in human relations, leadership, conflict management; familiarity with diverse teaching techniques; computer word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; knowledge of IEP processes and special education law; training in assessment and interpretation of information. - COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must complete a comprehensive background check, including state and FBI criminal history with fingerprinting, sex offender registry, and child abuse/neglect registry checks. All components must be completed prior to start and repeated every five years. - CERTIFICATION:
Valid South Dakota teaching certification with K-12 Special Education endorsement. Endorsement requirements may vary based on specific course assignments. - QUESTIONS ABOUT SD TEACHING CERTIFICATION:
Contact the South Dakota Department of Education. - YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAINING:
Certification is required every five years. Annual updates may be required; compliance is verified through district accreditation reviews. Provide the most recent certificate prior to starting employment.
