Position Overview

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating field operations on assigned construction scopes to ensure safe, timely, and cost‑effective project execution. This role plans, organizes, and supervises mechanical construction activities, maintaining continuity of progress while maximizing productivity, quality, and safety performance.

The Mechanical Superintendent provides direct leadership to subcontractors and field teams, ensuring all mechanical systems are installed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, schedules, and applicable codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise on‑site mechanical construction activities, including HVAC, piping, and process mechanical systems
  • Plan and manage short‑term and long‑term work sequencing to meet contractual milestones
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities to ensure efficient use of labor, materials, and equipment
  • Enforce site safety programs and promote a strong safety culture across all mechanical scopes
  • Monitor quality control and ensure compliance with design documents, codes, and standards
  • Collaborate with project management on schedule updates, productivity tracking, and cost control
  • Identify and resolve field issues proactively to minimize delays and rework
  • Maintain clear communication with field leadership, subcontractors, and project stakeholders

Education & Experience Requirements

One of the following combinations is required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of construction management or mechanical craft supervision experience
  • OR
  • Associate Degree and 9+ years of construction management or mechanical craft supervision experience
  • OR
  • High School Diploma / GED and 11+ years of construction management or mechanical craft supervision experience
Additional Qualifications
  • Proven leadership in industrial or large‑scale mechanical construction environments
  • Excellent communication and team‑building skills
  • Strong background in jobsite safety and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and complex mechanical scopes concurrently
Project Environment (Publicly Reported Context)

This role supports a major industrial manufacturing facility currently under construction in Sioux Falls, involving:

  • 700,000+ square‑foot production facility on a large multi‑acre site
  • Installation of state‑of‑the‑art mechanical, HVAC, and process systems supporting food production
  • Supporting infrastructure, including process utilities, wastewater treatment, warehouse, and distribution functions
  • A multi‑year construction schedule with phased execution and future expansion capability

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
