Position Overview
Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking an Assistant Program Supervisor to supervise activities of a team of direct care employees within the program. What You Will Do- Client Relations: Ensure physical, emotional, and safety needs of clients are met. Approve, deny or terminate adult and child shelter stays as necessary. Provide direct crisis intervention and case management services to adult and child victims of abuse.
- Team Management: Participate in recommendations for hiring and terminations of assigned staff. Coordinate daily shift activities, including but not limited to, assignment of staff to children in care, completing meal counts, administering medication to children in placement, and coordinating transportations. Assign and monitor staff case loads. Assist with ensuring shifts are covered and scheduling needs. Conduct daily shift change meetings. Set performance expectations, monitor performance and conduct performance appraisals for assigned staff.
- Outreach Services: Make appropriate referrals. Communicate and coordinate with DSS, placing agencies, and community partners.
- Data Management: Complete necessary forms and documentation. Conduct regular reviews of client files and follow up with staff regarding concerns. Maintain client paperwork/files.
- Program Management: Ensure compliance with Agency policy and all required regulatory standards. Ensure safe childcare practices are utilized. Assist in keeping the shelter clean and orderly. Serve in on-call rotation as assigned.
- Professional Development: Attend required meetings. Complete required annual training. Maintain required certifications and proficiencies.
- Training: Assist in training new and existing employees, interns, and volunteers. Plan and facilitate team meetings.
- Safety, Policies and Procedures: Ensure safety standards and infection control policies are followed.

- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, or Human Services field preferred.
- Experience: Supervisory experience preferred. Three years experience in human services preferred.
- Licensure: Valid Driver’s License preferred.

- Competitive Compensation: $26.62 to $33.28/hour + up to $2/hour shift differential (depending on experience and education) with yearly merit-based raises

- Retirement Plans: Once entry into the plan, employees receive a 3% employer contribution each pay period and an up to an additional 5% profit sharing. Employees are 100% vested after 4 years of credited service.

Environment focused on care of individuals in crisis situations. The employee is regularly required to bend and sit on the floor. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff.
