Overview
10:30am-7:15pm — Assemble, organize, prepare, and cook or bake from scratch or using convenience items all meats, entrees, casseroles, soup, starches, vegetables, sauces, and bakery products to provide menu selections for patients, cafeteria, special functions, and satellite accounts while meeting productivity levels. Knowledge of and practice with HACCP guidelines.

Responsibilities- Prepares, organizes, assembles and cooks from scratch or using convenience items all meats, entrees, casseroles, soups, starches, vegetables, sauces, and bakery products to provide menu selections for patients, cafeteria, special functions, and satellite accounts.
- Cooks using standardized recipes.
- Creatively utilizes leftovers to minimize waste and reduce food cost.
- Prepares quantities indicated on computerized production sheets and special function lists.
- Pulls needed meats, eggs and vegetables from the freezer in advance of production. Preps items for the next day’s menus.
- Operate department equipment as assigned; clean and restock dishes, food, and supplies during hours of operation.
- Practice HACCP guidelines for food handling; monitor temperatures; maintain a clean, safe, and orderly workstation.
- Report equipment malfunctions to a supervisor; maintain sanitation logs and production sheets.
- Complete routine cleaning duties and check out with superiors or team lead at the end of the shift.
- Demonstrate UnityPoint Health values and adhere to policies, procedures and safety guidelines.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance to meet department needs.
- Maintain current licenses and/or certifications required for the position; knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, DNV, OSHA and other regulatory guidelines.
- Complete annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Understand compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs and report concerns to hospital administration as appropriate.
- High School education or GED required
- Less than one year of experience
- Serv Safe Food Handler (Training Provided)
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English
- Multicultural sensitivity
- Microsoft Office – basic computer skills
- Customer/patient focused
- Strong critical thinking and independent judgment
- Familiar with equipment such as ovens, food carts, scales, fryers, mixers, grills, steamers, slicers, thermometers, and related kitchen tools
